The next show of In Transit — the world music concert series that focuses on music from a different country each month— fuses traditional sounds from China with Detroit funk and jazz at 8 p.m., Thursday, June 29 at the beautiful Garden Theatre in Detroit’s Midtown; 3929 Woodward Avenue.
It will be a festive evening of Chinese traditional dance and music uniquely and energetically fused with Detroit sounds all intended to celebrate southeast Michigan’s diversity. The series is lead and created by popular Detroit composer, musician, and cultural leader Sean Blackman.
The concert also features artists, a mini shopping bazaar of Chinese paintings, jewelry and other artisan pieces, along with Chinese-inspired cuisine, plus a dance floor that encourages the audience to get up and dance!
A friendly, celebratory atmosphere of virtuoso artists thrills fans month after month at the In Transit Concert Series.
“We are committed to providing a public platform that supports the best international performers — both established and emerging artists — in a beautiful theater that offers a comfortable, safe, family atmosphere,” Blackman said. “Through this, we build a culturally inclusive community that encourages social awareness, justice, and an equal opportunity,”
Blackman is a recipient of The Spirit of Detroit Award by the Detroit City Council for his work fulfilling a cultural void in the city’s performing arts arena.
